Howdy. Well, I've offically done a horrible job in the blogging department, haven't I?
Well, mostly its because I haven't had time. All I've been doing lately is working and sleeping and, if I'm lucky, I get to stop to eat every once in a while.
I'm at least a little less stressed out now that I've decided not to tackle the half-marathon this year. Not to mention my face has cleared up as well. I was obviously WAY more stressed than I thought because my face was breaking out like crazy! Worse than I think its ever been, and I don't usually have "face issues" much...
Anyhow, TMI, I know, sorry. I think there's a half marathon in our area this fall so depending on how my summer goes, I may try to do that one. I would really really like to at least get a 10K under my belt this year as well as run a sub 30 5K. I think that those will be my two goals to replace the half-marathon goal - although the sub 30 one was already a goal, if I remember correctly.
I also went on Friday and saw my doctor about my knee problem...
He said I had exactely what I thought I had: Baker's Cysts - behind both knees.
If you don't know what that is, I've pulled the explanation off of webmd:
Baker's cyst, also known as a popliteal cyst, is a pocket of joint fluid that forms a lump behind the knee. Often a Baker's cyst is painless, but occasionally this pocket of fluid can tear open and drain into the tissues of the lower leg, causing pain and swelling.
Symptoms include:
-Swelling behind the knee that may increase when a person stands.
-Discomfort behind the knee and into the upper calf, especially when the knee is completely bent or straight.
When swelling and pain increase, the best approach is to avoid activities such as squatting or kneeling. Icing and wrapping the knee may help reduce swelling. Occasionally, fluid may be drained from the knee, and the person may be given a steroid injection. In cases of restricted mobility or persistent pain, surgery to remove the cyst may be recommended.
So, I now I have to go see an Orthopedic Surgeon next Wednesday and see what he says. In the meantime, I'm still allowed to run as long as it doesn't cause me too much pain. So I was pretty excited to hear that, at least.
But that's not all... my doctor (who's getting a bit up there in age and has problems keeping things straight) obviously didn't read my file before he met with me, so incidentally, he thought that I was in to see him because I had bronchitis.
Random, I know, but I was in last year to see him for bronchitis and he didn't read the nurse's most recent notes about my knees and just assumed. Yes, its a little unnerving, I know.
Anyhow, he said "so you've got bronchitis?" to which I responded "Well, no, believe it or not, although I seem to get it if I sneeze wrong, but I'm actually here to have you look at my knees."
Well, before we started talking about my knees, he probed a little more about my bronchitis and I told him about how easy I seem to get it and also about the breathing issues I've been having when I run - particularly when I run on the treadmill, which he said was odd. I also told him that I am a VERY controlled breather and know to time my breathing with my steps, so its not an issue of having irregular breathing. Its an issue of I can't get enough air!!
Long story short, he said its obvious that I have Exercise Induced Bronchiospasm (EIB) which is a form of asthma and that it can be treated with an inhaler, which he prescribed for me to use before I run. Yay! So it wasn't really all in my head, I really can't breathe! Good to know! What's funny is, my brother was also recently diagnosed with Exercise Induced Asthma, so that totally makes sense!
Lastly, I was planning on going to the gym this morning, had my bag packed and everything but I woke up this morning stiff as a board. On top of that, one of the 234987982 times I got up to hit the snooze button, I pulled something in my neck, so I'm dealing with that today as well. What totally sucks is that I have to waitress tonight, so its going to be a long, painful day.
Well, I'm really going to attempt to get something done at work today. I've been doing a very good job lately at letting myself get distracted. I really need to make some progress this week. No.more.facebook.at.work. Period. Well, except for checking in first thing in the morning - but THAT'S IT!
Well, off to be productive. Hope everyone has been doing well!
Until next time...

Sounds like you've been insanely busy- but productive! I must have missed the post where you said you decided not to do the half marathon. Probably when I was moving or sick or something & got behind. But, I think getting faster in your 5K and doing a 10K are much smarter goals, especially with the knee & breathing problems you're having. Try to do those distances with those issues & learn how to manage them, then increase the distance from there.
Sorry it's been a rough morning for you - I hope it gets better!
Oh, and I'm so glad you figured out the breathing thing. That's such a relief! And PS: My complexion is a true indicator of my stress level- my chin especially breaks out when i'm stressed. I hate it!
