I've got some good news and I've got some bad news. Which to start with first??
The bad news, you say? Alright good, that way I can get it out of the way...
Friday was not a happy day.
I had a bad morning at work - thank GOD I only work till noon on Fridays. I was THIS CLOSE to walking out. I'd like to talk about it but I can't due to legal issues. Nevertheless, I was rather upset all day. It really had nothing to do with my actual job, so no worries there. Phew.
I almost talked myself out of doing my 6 mile "long run" for my training but I decided not to put it off, even though I would most likely stew about what had happened at work that morning the whole time.
Well, I got, literally, a quarter mile into my run and the phone rang. Normally I would not have answered it as it probably was a telemarketer anyways. But, for some reason, I felt compelled to answer. It was Jason. He was on his way home from work because he got laid off.
Fabulous.
So, not only am I panting from just getting into the groove of my run but I'm also emotionally distraught from my morning at work so this just sets me off and I lose it. I may have slightly overreacted, which I feel bad about as I'm sure it didn't make him feel any better, but I just couldn't keep control of my emotions. Needless to say, I didn't finish my run.
At first I really didn't know how we were going to make ends meet. However, after crunching numbers I was able eliminate $1000 worth of items - which is what I'm anticipating our monthly deficit will be. We're able to pay the bills and still contribute to a few of the more imporatant sinking funds that I was already budgeting for. I lowballed what I'm expecting him to receive from unemployment. I hate financial surprises.
I have to say, though, I'm so glad I found Dave Ramsey when I did because had I not, we would be in a WAY worse situation than what we are now. I just wish we had the stupid vehicles paid for. Ugh! Stupid car loans! Stupid debt! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
Alright, I think I'm done throwing a fit. No reason to dwell anymore. Onward and upward.
As much as I REALLY didn't want to, I ran my 6 miler on Saturday. With it being my "long run" the pace was totally doable and had I been able to run outside, I think I would have rather enjoyed it. Running that long on the treadmill is so dreadfully boring - even WITH my beloved iPod. Regardless, I'm so glad I didn't talk myself out of the run. I needed it. (Wow, I never thought I'd EVER say that I needed to do a 6 mile run! ha! Funny how times change...)
We spent all day Sunday with my family at the Home and Garden Expo at the I-X Center in Cleveland. It was neat to see all the things they had there. I was surprised at the variety of vendors that were there. One of my product reps got us free tickets, too, so that was an added bonus. They had a couple of model homes that you could walk through and they were so neat. I loved all of the contemporary fixtures and furniture they utilized. Oooh I was in heaven!!
This morning, I almost talked myself back into bed instead of going to the gym but I sucked it up and went anyways. (I'm really sore from walking around all day yesterday.) But I decided there was no reason to start the week off on a bad foot. I did my scheduled push work-out and am really proud of how I did:
Push - 2 sets of 12
Set 1
a. Dumbbell Bench Press - 20lbs/25lbs!!!
b. Modified Pushups - 12 reps/12 reps
Set 2
a. Dumbbell Shoulder Press - 15 lbs/15 lbs
b. Tricep Extensions - 20 lbs/25 lbs
Set 3
a. Max rep bench pushups - 14!!!!!
b. Max rep tricep dips - 33
All in all it was a great workout and I can see that I'm improving. I remember struggling to do 15 lbs on my bench press and today I was able to bump up to 25! Woo hoo!!! Also, I though that my second set of push-ups were going to suffer from my increase in bench press weight but I was still able to push out 12! Yee haw!! AND after all of that, I was still able to beat my max rep bench pushups by 4 reps! Oh yeah! I rock!! Unfortunatly, though, I'm really not actually seeing any improvement in my body. I was hoping to see a little more tonage (is that a word) but I'm not really. Hopefully my running will help get my weight back down and I'll start seeing results all around. Need to work on that portion control. (Note to self...)
Lastly, one of my favorite bloggers, Kristen, is doing a giveaway on her blog! Yippee!! She's always talking about these "Bobo's Oat Bars" and they look yummy! (I haven't figured out if its pronounced "bo-bo" or "bob-o"... anybody know??) Especially crumbled on yogurt or oatmeal as she is always doing.
Sooooo I'm going to try to win me some! Wish me luck!!! If not, I may just order a case of them once we get a little extra muh-lah (if that every happens again! oy!) I think I'm going to have a hard time deciding on a flavor though. They all sound good except for the coconut and apricot - I'm not a fan of either of those ingredients. Blech! I think I would maybe start with PB or Cinnamon Raisin. Yum!!
Well, we're getting close to some deadlines at work so I'd really like to make some progress today. Here's hoping!
Until next time,
-Lacey
